UK WWII Armed Forces Uniform help to identify please
« on: Tuesday 26 May 15 11:09 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone
I need help to identify the uniform in this photo please. Jack Brierly was born Jun 1913 in Yorkshire, West Riding, West Yorkshire UK. He married Lilian Hargate in Q2 1940 and he died 1951 after the war.  Family story was that he was in the Royal Marines - unproven.
Helpers on the Photo Restoration page have cleaned up the photo for me, but it was a tiny one - but am hopeful someone may have a clue
In appreciation
Flissie

Hi,

Do you have a copy of his marriage certificate?  His occupation might show if he was in the Marines.

Sorry to say that the photo is  a little indistinct.

I suggest that you get a copy of the marriage certificate.  That is likely to say what his occupation was.  and may give the name of his base or name of his ship.

He seems to be wearing "Tropical Kit"  and possibly be in Africa.

Thank you everyone for your help.  I have notified my friend that the best thing to do is obtain the marriage certificate and that the uniform suggests the tropics and possibly Africa
Cheers
