Richmond family - missing child
« on: Thursday 28 May 15 10:52 BST (UK) »
I have in my family tree a Charles Henry Richmond. I have him in the 1911, 1901 and 1891 census records but there is a discrepency between censuses as I have discovered a missing child.

1911 - Birmingham - Bissell St, Birmingham
Charles Henry Richmond (43, Birmingham, bricklayer's labourer)
Elizabeth Richmond (Wife, 43, Birmingham) (married 22 years - 10 children, 6 living, 3 dead - this doesn't add up!)
Ellen Richmond (Daughter, 13)
Minnie Richmond (Daughter, 10)
Edward Richmond (Son, 9)
Sarah Richmond (Daughter, 7)
Jennie (mis-transcribed as Finnie) Richmond (daughter, 5)
Mary Richmond (daughter, 2)

Here is the family in 1901 - (looks like Mole Street, Birmingham)
Charles Richmond (32, Birmingham, bricklayer's labourer)
Elizabeth Richmond (Wife, 32, Birmingham)
Andrew Richmond (Son, 12)
Elizabeth Richmond (daughter, 8 )
Nellie Richmond (daughter, 4) - Is this Ellen from the 1911 census or a different child?
Minnie Richmond (daughter, 2 1/2)

And finally here they are in 1891 - (Moseley Road, Birmingham)
George Gardener (35, Birmingham, Storekeeper)
Sarah Gardener (Wife - 30, Birmingham, tin polisher)
Charles Richmond (Boarder - 22, Birmingham, wire roller)
Elizabeth Richmond (Wife, 22, Birmingham, press worker)
Anthony " (son, 2)
John G " (son, 11 months) My assumption is that Anthony and John G are the children of George and Sarah Gardener.

Charles and Elizabeth's son Andrew would have been 2 in 1891 so why does he not appear in census with them?
Any help with tracing their children would be greatly appreciated. It would be nice to find out who all 10 of their children were and which ones had died by 1911.
Warwickshire, Birmingham, Worcestershire, Shropshire, Bridgnorth.

Anthony is a Richmond

Richmond    Anthony        Birmingham    6d   86

There is no Andrew Richmond born about 1889 though, so I wonder if Anthony became Andrew?

I cant see John at the moment

Ah, interesting. If both of those boys are theirs then that would make the total 10 children, as claimed on the 1911 census.
Children I know of -
Andrew Richmond
Elizabeth Richmond
Ellen Richmond
Nellie Richmond (who could be Ellen)
Minnie Richmond
Edward Richmond
Sarah Richmond
Jennie Richmond
Mary Richmond
Warwickshire, Birmingham, Worcestershire, Shropshire, Bridgnorth.

They don't seem to have been very good at registering their children, most are missing from Freebmd.

So they claim that there are 6 children alive in 1911 - the 6 they have listed.

That means that Elizabeth born 1893 must have died, but there is no suitable death record between 1901 and 1911.

This could be John's death

Interestingly, their daughter Ellen married and had children of her own. She gave her children the same names as some of her siblings, including the names Elizabeth, Mary, Nellie, Anthony and John G.

bearing  in mind  the   Antony/Andrew     name  , I  wonder  if this  could be  Elizabeth  ?
