Birth Certificate - Jones
« on: Sunday 31 May 15 11:19 BST (UK) »
If anyone is going to look up bmd certificates can they help me please. I am trying to find the mother of Herbert Hutt Jones who was born in the Sep qtr 1902 ref 11a 571. His father was Herbert Hutt, a doctor but his mother is unknown.

Any information about his parents would be much appreciated. Thank you.

It's not possible to "look-up" birth certificates - by law! ;D

You have to either buy the certificate, or try to find the parish register entry.

You could also look at the 1911 census - but to do that you have to pay for credits?
Ancestry, FindMyPast, GenesReunited, 1911census.co.uk, etc

There is an article you will be interested in on  the free to view Welsh Newspapers online. It talks about Margaret Jones accusing Dr Hutt of being the father of her illegitimate child.

1901 census as a Herbert A Hutt (29 b. Norfolk), surgeon, living as a border with the Halley family in Llanwonno, Mountain Ash.  Could he be the father?  He married in 1909 and moved to New Zealand in 1923 where he died in 1926.

To order a birth certificate (cost £9.25) :  http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

Thank you to the last two people to post a reply. I think you may have solved a family mystery. My grandfather also had a sister called Margaret and she would have been about 18 in 1902 and unmarried. It now makes sense that her older sister Kate would take in the child.  Margaret did marry  in 1907 but sadly died in late June 1922.
