I am trying to find out if i have a half sibling
« on: Monday 01 June 15 00:50 BST (UK) »
Hiya.
Im obviously new to this.
Im really not sure if there is a way to even answer my question.
My dad died in 1984, at the time him and my mum had split up.
He did have other girl friends.
I am trying to find out if i have a half sibling, i think a brother but not sure. All i have is his death certificate.
I dont even know the name of any girlfriends as i was only 6 when he passed.
Any ideas?
Thanx in advance for any replys

Hi welcome to Rootschat

One of Rootschat policies is that no living person can be named. In searching for the answer to your question this might occur.

In my mind it might be difficult to search on a supposition. Do you have any family tales or odd circumstances which have led you to a position where you feel you have half-siblings?

But Rootschat people have done amazing things so I would suggest post your fathers details ( as he has passed) and see what happens. Post 3 times and you will be able to receive and send personal messages which might happen if the person is still alive

Good luck

 :)

Welcome from me too, Fiona-Mae

Don't forget to tell us where & when of anything you post, as it helps narrow down event spans etc.

Welcome to Rootschat.

This may be very difficult, as you don't know if your dad did have further children, whether they were registered under his surname or his girlfriend's.

If you have his death cert, is the informant a girlfriend of his, maybe if you had a surname you could search under that. Or if you think they may have lived together you might be able to find out her name from the electoral rolls.

It may be a long shot, but autosomal DNA testing might be an option for you.

Hi Fiona.

Maybe it would be easier if you click on ''Forum'' just up there ^^^^  see it?  ;D

There is a whole board dedicated to DNA and all the various terms and gives great advice on the best way to approach your search  :)

Good luck
