Thanks

Thanks for information on shipping records I think that this could well be the strongest lead we have so far, the age does seem to match up within a few years, I will go to the NZ site and see what I can find out.
Thanks so far for your help Wendy

Hi Jackie,  so followed up on the transferred?? Statement and I think that just means she was transferred to another page on the shipping record to a page that just has headed up single woman, which would explain the Transferred to SW.

I have found Emma and Henry on the census but no Elizabeth. Still looking though.
Thanks

Hello
I think the key to this is to track Elizabeth in New Zealand first.
So there is marriage 1864 New Zealand  ref 156 Onehunga
Elizabeth Lancaster to a James Davis.( I know not William but Mr Davis seems to have disappeared by the time of your George Joseph's Birth in 1880)
Son William born in Auckland 1866.

Elizabeth remarries a Jacob Riley 1881 NZ ref 2495 at Thames

They both die at Thames NZ
Elizabeth Riley Dec 1928 3350 and Jacob Sep 1906 1530.

If this is your woman she would be born a bit before 1850 and be a bit older. The marriage certificates would give at least her father's name.

The only birth in Warwickshire for a Elizabeth Lancaster other than the one you have is at Warwick in 1844.
Matching baptism Rowington 4.8.1844

Elizabeth Lancaster d of Henry and Ann Lancaster boatman.

Rowington is on the outskirts  of Birmingham and is on the canal which indicates Henry would have been working on a canal barge.
Other children Marianne 25.6.1842and Sarah 23.4.1848.

1851 Lawsonford Rowington
Henry Lancaster 33 boatman  Lapworth
Anne 28 Lapworth
Mary Ann 8 Rowington
Elizabeth 5
Sarah 3
William 5mths.

They do not appear to be in England after that.

Hi

So have have looked up the BDM records for a James Davis and I did find a death for 1865 for a James Davis 29 years old, so I have ordered that one hoping that it will have details on that of Elizabeth, if she is one that one then I will start to look at how James died as well, and then will hopefully be able to track Elizabeth.  As I said in my first post that in the family there was talk of a murder on the wharf with a Davis.  Will post when the cert arrives.

Death certificates from England & Wales don't contain any family information?

The informant MAY be a family member - but that isn't always the case.
