CLEWER family, Worcestershire
« on: Tuesday 02 June 15 13:50 BST (UK) »
I'm helping a friend get her research ready for a trip to England.  She will be staying in London, however, also plans to go to Worcestershire with hopes of finding more info about the CLEWER family.  They lived in Martley area - Richard CLEWER & Jane BRIDGER.
We have most of the Census (1841-1911) for most of the family.
FamilySearch doesn't seem to have much about the CLEWERs beyond Richard and Jane (as mentioned above).  Should she be looking at Parish Register films?

- Can anyone tell me what good things can be found at "The Hive"?
- or, is there a better place to research for Martley, Worcestershire?
Any help/suggestions appreciated.
Snoons.

Hi
Here are a few things to be going on with.
Richard Cluer married Jane Bridger  23 Oct 1821 St Swithin Worcester.

So perhaps checking   a different spelling is necessary.

There is a possible first marriage if Jane turns out to be a second wife.
Richard Cluer and Mary Triett 1 Feb 1803 at St Clement Worcestershire.

The right death is the 1854 one for Richard (it's on Find My Past if you have it).

Richard and Jane's children baptisms

Richard 8/12/1822 Broadwas
Sarah 13/2/1825 Martley
Thomas 16/3/1828 Martley
Moses 11/3/1832 Cotheridge
Alfred 28/11/1835 Cotheridge

There's a suggestion his parents are Richard and Sarah -children Richard John 1780 and  Sarah 1783.
The only baptism I can see is Sarah's 23/2/1783 Worcestershire on family search.

Cotheridge ,Martley and Broadwas look to be parishes to search for the previous generation with a William and Elizabeth at Cotheridge and George and Sarah at Broadwas.

There is a Edward and Catherine Clewer in Martley
George bapt 2/11/1743
Elizabeth 6.4.1746

A Will for Edward 31 Dec 1777 is on the National Archives website and Ancestry.
The Hive will also have local Wills for Martley for people who had a smaller estate and didn't need to prove their Wills before the Archbishop of Canterbury.
There is an index of these in book form and then you view  on microfilm by year and number.
The parish records are also usually on microfilm and you can just get on with both of these in the open area of the Hive.
