I don't think it is the right one now. I just looked at Criminal records and he received a 10 yr sentence in 1850  :-\

I should have read it more closely. He was sentenced to transportation for 10 yrs in 1850.

Where  do you have the date 1855?

On the records I have seen, there is no age. The convict might not be Thomas who was born 1834.  :-\

1851 has a T S who is 21 yrs born Preston. He is a prisoner in Gosport - York Convict Hulk.
I can't find a Thomas Speddy/ ie in 1841 to match.

Hello,

Edward SPEDDING, born 1857, was mentioned only in the context of his being part of Thomas SPEDDING's family and his non-appearance in the 1861 Census.

Thomas SPEDDY, whose parents are Edward and Grace SPEDDY, is strictly speaking the only person of interest.   As far as I can ascertain there is no mention of them or Thomas in FreeCEN, the non-membership results provided by Findmypast or Ancestry's Public Member Trees.

The 1851 Census "TS" reference should be to Parkhurst Prison (HO107/1663/382, p.7), aged 16 born about 1835, from where he was transferred to Portland Prison on 19/02/1855.   He was granted early release from the latter on 22/11/1855 as per TNA PCOM 3/42/4622, which is the only indication I have so far unearthed that suggested that he had the alias "Thomas SPEDDING".   The "SPEDDIE" option comes from a headline in the British Newspaper Archive which I cannot access fully.

The TS I found is obviously a different person then.

Just to say that Edward Spedding was found in 1861. It may not matter but just to put the record straight.

I think you found an Edward SPETTING but the Grandparents had a different surname that read HAYES not LOWE.......his mother, Mary Ann's maiden name (See the England & Wales, FreeBMD Marriage Index, 1837-1915/27045316).

It is all very confusing.

Her mother was Lowe before she married Mr Hayes.

It is confusing because I can't find anything to do with Edward and Grace! There are Speddys around so probably correct.
