British Army Service Record
« on: Tuesday 09 June 15 18:52 BST (UK) »
Hello All,

I have managed to locate the death record for William J Brinkley in July 1915. No. 91581 82nd Bty, RFA.
He was buried in India, and from looking at his children's birth records he served in Ireland, then moved on to India around 1906/1907. His wife and children returned to Ireland via England but William seems to have remained in India up to his death.

I am struggling to locate his service records, or even medal card, despite him serving for quite a long time and wonder if anyone can assist in finding out what he did in Ireland, and in India if possible.

Many Thanks,

Colleen

There is a medal card for him but there is precious little information on it.

If you are looking on ancestry it is mistranscribed as Wialliam Brinkley

Presumably you have the CWGC record. FindMyPast has the burial record. Aged 41, died of vascular disease of the heart. He was serving with 44th Battery RFA

Thanks for your help again Shaun,

I don't have the world access on Findmypast so it didn't bring up his burial record so thanks so much for this. I no longer use ancestry - typically what I need is on there!

Records for British India are included in the UK subscription. Select the database British India Office Deaths & Burials, and you should find it. The record also names the church and denomination. I think the cause of death is valvular rather than vascular disease of the heart.  :)

Patricia - that looks to be the otherwise free CWGC record recycled by a commercial website.
