Brilliant lateral thinking, Susanne Guille baptized 3rd October 1791  and sister of Rachel married André in St Helier on April 22nd 1824.
According to the register André was from Belan Chatillion sur Seine, Cote D'Or, which I think is in the Burgundy region.
Alongside Andre's name are the words 'widow Marie C J Jehan', I'm not sure what that means as there is no local marriage that I can see between André and Marie Jehan. I'll have a word with the Archive staff next week.
The Cote D'Or records are on-line but they're quite difficult to read.

Wow thank you  I look forward to hearing from you
I suppose it is likely that there was a previous marriage given his age and that he had been in the French Army and that could have been near where he was born in Belan-sur Ource
Do you think it is possible to take the Guille/Gasnier family any further back?
Thank you for all your help

I have just found that Andre Clapin was in the Grand Armee and awarded the medal of St Helene
On the notation ( date of birth is wrong says 1793 but should be 1773) says he served from 11/08/1791 for 11 years and that his residence was now Lanvallay Dinan Cote D'Armor perhaps that is where he lived with his first wife?
