Arthur Buckle - Thurston
« on: Friday 12 June 15 10:32 BST (UK) »
I live in Sydney, Australia and recently my mother bought a second hand book. This book was awarded to Arthur Buckle in 1906, at St Peters Church Thurston. I have done some googling and have been able to find out that Arthur Buckle (as long as it's the right Arthur Buckle) died in 1918 in the War, and is buried in St Peters Churchyard in Thurston. He was survived by his wife who lived in Canada.

I guess I am just trying to find out if he has any family left, and how on earth this book ended up in Sydney.
If anyone could shed any light that would be great. Thanks. :)

Hi and a warm welcome to Rootschat!

The only St Peters in Thurston I can find is in Suffolk. You have posted on the Surrey Board. Did you mean Suffolk,  or is there another St P's in a Thurston in Surrey?

1901 has this Arthur Buckle in Thurston. This one would be about 6 in 1906, and pushing it to be old enough for WW1 and to be married by then. Possible, I know.

1901
Church Street, Thurston Suffolk
Walter 41 railway platelayer
Emma 41 wife
William 13
Frederick 9
Olive 6
Alfred 3
Arthur 9 months      all bn Thurston

DeBoo - London

Arthur Buckle of Thurston, bn 1900, 's WW1 service record is on Ancestry. It isn't a very clear image. But he didn't die, he was demobbed in 1920. Appears to be single.

Ok , sorry I never spotted the link in your first post! Or if I did I never looked at thinking it was just a ref to an Arthur buried in 1918 without more details.

That tells us a lot more about the Arthur you want to research!

ie he was 30 when died in 1918
Was the son of Robert and Thirza
Was the husband of Ada E C.

So, we can rule out the Arthur I found who was bn 1900 then.
