Family information please - AYER, KERNAHAN
« on: Thursday 18 June 15 13:59 BST (UK) »
Catherine Milliken (sometimes Milligan) McConnell AYRE, born Doagh 1921, died London 1950.
married 1942, Ballynure .( There were no children to this marriage) Her parents were, Jane Kernahan and Robert AYER, living at 8 limestone Road at time of their marriage in Nov 1911. We have Catherine's birth , marriage and death certificates but wondered if anyone recognises the family and can give further information especially on any other family members or anything else useful
Thank you for your time

Just to add that Belfast street directories either side of the 1911 marriage show the occupier of 8 Limestone Road to be this man, as shown with family in the 1911 census (maybe they were just boarding, but just in case it provides any leads):

There is a single man by the name of Kernohan which is the spelling used on the Civil Birth record, may be relation.

Not really that straight-forward, I suspect.

Robert Ayer, son of David, married 10 Nov.1911 Belfast district to Elizabeth/Lizzie Sempey, daughter of James [sources: GRONI, Emerald Ancestors, etc.]

GRONI's database shows only 2 Ayer births 1911-1915:
Robert born 6 Nov.1912 Antrim district (mother Kernohan)
David born 14 Apr.1914 Antrim district (mother Sempey)
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Can't find Robert Ayer in Ireland in 1911 census but there's a George Ayer of Doagh mentioned here-

Hi Everyone,
Thank you for a very speedy reaction to my request I wish every query I put on the www gained answers as fast As aghadowey says its not straight forward, Catherine ran out from the marriage and came to England, and met up with an American serviceman, a liaison which resulted in the friend I'm trying to assist and following the death of Catherine when she was 6 yrs old she spent the rest of her life in the care of social services and has no family knowledge from either side.
dathai,  I have a transcription of the 1911 marriage of Robert and Jane  at St Anne's Church of Ireland which shows Robert's surname as AJER, his father is also Robert, Jane Kernahan's father is Samuel. On Catherine's birth certificate Kernohan is shown  and whilst looking there appears to be a spelling ending in 'ghan.
thankyou all for the interest shown

The George Ayer mentioned by aghadowey is also mentioned at:

Quote
Corporal George Ayer, 2nd Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, killed in action, resided at 22, Lisburn Avenue, Belfast. He was a reservist, and prior to mobilisation was a chauffeur.

He appears on the RoH at Windsor Presbyterian Church, Belfast.
