William Gibbs from Croydon
« on: Friday 26 June 15 10:36 BST (UK) »
Hello,
William Gibbs b c 1850 in Bletchingley Surrey (1881 census)
I'm trying to find his death.
I've found a William Gibbs who died Jan 1895 in Croydon, Surrey.
How can I confirm this is the same William Gibbs?
Thanks in advance

Where was "yours" in 1891?
Is "yours " still alive on 1901? If so, that rules out the death in 1895

Who was the informant on tbe Croydon death? Does that tie up with what you know about "yours"?
Did the Croydon one leave a Will, again does that tie up with your one?

They are my ideas.

Groom
Yes, that's the William Gibbs I'm interested in. Any info about him I'd love.
I can't find him in the 1891 census.
Thank you everyone for your interest.

The William Gibbs who died in 1895 was 45, so the right age. It sounds correct to me, but you'd need to get the certificate to be certain.

I think this is the family in 1891, they have been transcribed with the family above them on Ancestry, but the image shows them as Gibbs. William isn't with them.

RG12 Piece number   589 Folio   14 Page   21
Lambeth Road, Croydon

Emma   Gibbs   Wife   Married   Female   32       Laundress   Croydon
Robert   Gibbs   Son           12       Scholar   Croydon Transcription
Amelia   Gibbs   Daughter       9       Scholar   Croydon Transcription
James   Gibbs   Son       6       Scholar   Croydon
Daisy   Gibbs    Daughter       3       Croydon     Transcription
Fred   Mann   Lodger   Single       27       Iron Moulder   Lincoln

Sorry Liz, missed your post. I don't know why Ancestry has them in Christchurch, it is clearly Croydon!

I think Fred the 'lodger' is possibly the father of some of the children
