1861 England Census
« on: Saturday 27 June 15 17:13 BST (UK) »
I found a Francis Martin born in Marylebone  abt 1845.  I  believe this is my grandfather.  I looked in the BMD index and he is not there.  Is there anywhere else I can look for the index number?

Hi

Welcome to rootschat  :)

Not all births were registered this early so there may not be a birth certificate.  Do you have his marriage to confirm his fathers name & occupation.

He was married in the US and the marriage certificate does not list his parents names or occupation.  I have ordered a search of NYC death records for his death certificate hoping the info is there.  He was living in New Jersey but I went to the NJ State Archives and his death is not listed.  Hopefully, he moved back to NY at some point.

If its Francis Joseph, he's not the one.  Mine has a middle initial of "C".  I also found a possibility in Huddersfield even though my Dad's birth certificate says my grandfather was born in London.  Guess I'll have to hope I can find his death certificate.

No idea - everything I have says Frank C. Martin so I assume Francis is his proper name (but then again, who knows!).  Census records say he was born Sept. 1844 in England.  My Dad and his sister never knew their parents since they were basically brought up by an Aunt so I'm at a real disadvantage.
