(*) Gower/Holmes
« on: Monday 29 June 15 12:05 BST (UK) »
Hello there, am new to the forum so a big Hello to you all.

A little bit of background. Most of the family on my Mums side have now passed away but i am still desperate to find out what happened to her brother, my Uncle (*).
Mum (born (*) 1938) was one of 8 children who were all taken into care and spent much of their childhood in the Fulwood Cottage Homes. Her biological parents were Harry Gower and Rose Simpson.
My Mum was thankfully adopted at the age of 8 and had a fabulous upbringing, some of the siblings spent their whole childhood there.
In later life all the siblings made contact with each other but (*) was never found.
We have information from the Cottage Home that he was adopted in 1960 by a Mrs Holmes. He would have been 17.
He was born Dec 25th 1943.
Other than through an adoption intermediary is there any way i can find out what happened to him?

Many thanks

Catherine

Ok thanks for that. Small positive there.
I did look for marriages in his name and found a couple of possibilities but no idea where to go after those.  ???

Hello, and welcome to RootsChat!

RootsChat is meant for finding ancestors, rather than living relatives.

I'm sorry but personal details of any people known or thought to be living will be removed, in accordance with RootsChat policy, to avoid spamming and other abuses. So people here will be able to give you general tips and hints how to proceed, but not any concrete details.

You will also find more tips here:

Have you got a copy of his adoption certificate from the General Register Office?

If you don't I can check the entry for you this week and let you have the registration details.

Then you will be able to find out a bit more about Mrs Holmes such as her full name, whether a Mr Holmes was shown on the cert and where she was living at the time.

Other than that it may be a case of looking through the online electoral registers and writing to every one of that name to see if any are correct, which is going to be a bit of a task as there are a lot.

No i don't have a copy of the adoption cert so any help on that would be very appreciated.

Can the electoral register be checked for free?

Thank you
