Windows 7 - not working
« on: Tuesday 30 June 15 05:24 BST (UK) »
Turned on my computer this morning and I find it  will not work.

This is what happens -
I push the on button on tower - blue light flashes. Also on monitor - blue light flashes.
After a few seconds - Acer, Energy Star and no signal - flash on screen separately.
Have checked that cable and plugs are all connected securely.
OH said when he used it last night  - that the mouse was not working properly - so I have changed the batteries on mouse and keyboard. (the mouse is wireless).

I'm posting this message from my WinXP.

Don't know what else to check as I'm not computer savvy and my OH is even less so.

Please can anyone help me sort this out.....

Sarra

I had a similar problem with my Acer!

This is what I did:

1. Power off by holding the power button in for about 5 seconds.
2. Wait for a minute, or so. (This ensures the disk drive has actually stopped spinning!)
3. Power on again.

My system then informs me that Windows failed to start, and to run a recommended repair.
Allow this to run, including any restores.

I think it's due to a recent Windows update which appears to be incompatible with Acer?!
No! I have no idea which one! ;D

This might help:
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/ss/safe-mode-windows-7.htm

If it starts in Safe mode, it might be a software problem.
If it won't, it might be hardware.............

Good luck.

Sarra, did you create a "System Repair Disc" when you first got Windows 7 ?
Worth doing.

My sister and I both had trouble with our toshibas after the last lot of updates. We are both running windows 7. It seems as if there's a problem every other update! We had to run a repair as well!

Very interested to read these comments.
My brother's laptop died last Sunday & ours (Acer) followed suit on Monday.
They are both currently with the local computer wiz, I'll mention the comments on possible update problems when he rings with a progress report. It certainly sounds a bit fishy.

Sarra's problem sounds more like hardware than software, ie. not linked to any updates.  The fact she's getting no signal after a few seconds could be down to faulty monitor, faulty monitor cable or issue with the desktop tower.

Sarra, are you getting any noises from the tower when you push the on button and are you getting any continuous beeps at all when you get those messages flash on the monitor?

Thank you everyone for your helpful advice and links to find help.

Well my OH who knows nothing much about computers....has solved our problem.

Would you believe he whacked the mouse on the desktop last night (he wanted to play his cards on computer), and lo and behold the computer is now working. Maybe he just got lucky. ::)

I'm thinking that perhaps it was something to do with the monitor. ::)
I know I checked and cables and cords to the monitor and they were OK.
Hopefully the problem will not return.  One thing I must do is ask my son-in-law if he has a "System Repair Disk" (because he installed Windows 7 for us).
My last Windows update was 12 June (Security update).
roopat & weste hope you sort out your computer problems.
Many thanks.....
