Hannah Marion ( Barlow) Latham
« on: Thursday 02 July 15 09:24 BST (UK) »
Hannah Marion Barlow is something of  a Mystery . She  married Robert Jenkins Latham between 1925 and 1930 and I am guessing in /around Durban .  Know nothing of her family .
I would like to find  details of  her marriage to Robert Jenkins Latham   . He was born 1874 Greenwich London ,England and died 1951 In Grahamestown  South Africa. He married first Ivy Muir in 1898 who died 1911 and I am not interested in tracing that side .He had lived in Pretoria, Durban and Pietermaritzburg . Hope someone can help find their marriage record or even her death .
Many Thanks.

Slightly younger than you suggest but possible?
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KYJQ-N49
baptism in 1914 for a girl b. 1907, Hannah Marion Barlow daughter of Thomas and Annie.

It seems she was baptised in 1914 in Bloemfontein. Maybe it would be better to look in that area for the marriage?

There are some Church of South Africa records on familysearch (same database as above) which are not name indexed, so you may have to narrow it down to likely churches and then check by hand.

Thank You --I think this is more Credible than my suggestion . I notice in the original Document their place of Abode is given as Keynia---is this a simple misspelling or is it a local area .  The Mystery deepens.

Just been told that the place of abode is Gezina in Pretoria. Wonder why no occupation for Father given or where her parents came from.

Have discovered that Hannah ( mentioned above)  was one of 6 daughters born to Thomas and Annie Barlow . He worked as a Bricklayer but also described as a builder and a mason on their baptism records.
With the exception of Lillian Asterline Barlow who was born 4 June 1895 in Johannesburg at 198 Market Street all the girls are born in Pretoria. I have seen the baptism records but would appreciate help in sourcing other records. The whole family just seem to disappear.
The names of the other girls are Gertrude Millicent Barlow b 26 April 1894,Ruth Nydia Barlow b 26 May 1891,Florence Payne Barlow b 6 March 1890( wonder if Payne was the mothers name) ,Alice Christina Barlow 20 Nov 1903.
Many Thanks.

Remember that a lot of records have not been indexed.

Are you sure these two families are the same?

Using http://www.identitynumber.org + familysearch:
at St. Albans the Martyr
marriage of Thomas Barlow and Annie Payne in 1889:
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01for/

Florence Payne Barlow, married in 1912 to Thomas Henry Potter:
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01fos/
Note the address of Struben Street, Pretoria, which would fit with "Gezina", although why Hannah was baptised where she was and how late she was baptised is a bit of a mystery.

There might be other records for this family in these image sets if you look through enough - maybe Hannah and Robert's marriage was also at the same church.

Thank you so much--it does raise the possibility Robert and Hannah may have married in Pretoria not Durban.
