Able Seaman Harry Lemmey - RNVR
« on: Saturday 04 July 15 21:44 BST (UK) »
I am researching Harry Lemmey and looking for any information that would link him to Gravesend, Kent.
He was born 3 July 1896 and died 20 Nov 1918 on the SS Sunland.  His Service No was Z/3010.  His brother Archie was notified of his death and his address was in Grays, Essex.
He is listed on the Chatham Naval Memorial as well as the Gravesend War Memorial.  Can anyone help in linking him to Gravesend?  I can't find him on any census (also been looking at alternative spellings of surname and alternatives for 'Harry').  Also interested in any photos found.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

This is his card from the Royal Naval Division - http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D7282010

His address was 2 Town Pier, Gravesend and his father was John Lemming, 12 Wakefield St Gravesend.

I've downloaded Harry's sea service record which seems to finish in 1915 so doesn't have his war service on it.  It's odd that he has his father down as John Lemming.  I have found a Henry John Lemmey and an Archibald James G Lemmey, both born in Orsett.  I still cannot find them in the 1901 or 1911 census.  I have found an Ada Lemmey dying in 1898 in Orsett aged 26 so could be their mother and they could be in care or with relatives.  I'm drawing a blank at the moment.

K8T,
Did you download the service record linked by Nanny Jan that should be his service record?
The father's name on the RND card is Lemming but could be a typo.
