What worries me is that familysearch is showing births to a Joseph Thompson and Hannah up to 1867, by which time Hannah aminson would have been 50, guess there is more than  one Joseph and Hannah

Mike

Whereas Hannah, nee Fletcher, would have "only" been 46/47 ;)

Going back to the original query, re Emma/Hannah, maybe the Registrar mis-heard the name or simply wrote Emma when he should have written Hannah.  If Joseph and Hannah illiterate, they wouldn't have spotted the error, and it's only now, 150odd years later, that it's a cause for consternation/head scratching!

That image is available on FS too if you browse for it. It's on p.54 of the Duffield Marriages 1818-1824 volume.

Thanks everyone, this has helped so much as I was getting brain freeze!  I am sure that my tree to follow is definitely the Fletcher branch and not the Aminson one.

Oh and also for pointing out the Family Search web site.  I am relatively new to Genealogy and this is a great help.
