James Wyatt buried Glossop Cemetery 21 May 1870 aged 37
« on: Sunday 12 July 15 04:40 BST (UK) »
I have a conundrum which arises relative to my Wyatt family mainly found in Glossop.
I am trying to find the parents of a James Wyatt bC1833 assuming Derbyshire.

Whilst serving 62 Foot Depot ( Service Number 39800 in Belfast , he married 9 Apr 1860 Trinity Church Belfast County Antrim , Ellen Faron ( ? spelling variations) , d/o Edward.
Ellen may have been a native of Belfast.

I have accounted for him appearing on the 1861 Census Belfast during his military service.
Not sure but the 62nd Regiment of Foot may have been raised in Wiltshire.
As he died 1870 he will not be found on the 1871 Census. He was buried Glossop Cemetery 21 May 1870.He had returned to Glossop.
His death record shows that they were living Princess Lane Whitfield Glossop ( ? not Primrose Lane )at the time of his death.

James and Ellen had three children born Belfast:
Hannah 1861
Mary Catherine 1863
Edward James 1864

Also born Glossop:
Jane Ellen 1868
She died Glossop 1903.

His wife Ellen ( then Wyatt nee Faron ?) remarried Dec. Qtr 1870 to Henry Lomas.
At the 1881 Census she was with her Lomas children at 22 Primrose Lane.
The mixed family is still together in 1891.

Can someone please help me identify James Wyatt assuming he originated in Derbyshire.

With thanks.

Wyatt and Wood of Glossop, Derbyshire. Longstaff of Bishop Auckland,Durham. Harry of St Austell and St Kew,Cornwall. Charters of County Antrim.Knight of Warwickshire.Hendy of Ballyedmonduff.

You have stated that Ellen was the daughter of Edward, no indication who James was the son of?

Thank you chempat,
Ellen Faron ( or similar ) was d/o Edward according to Belfast marriage record 9 Apr 1860.
She married James Wyatt who I think may have been born Derbyshire. It is his parents I am trying to find. His military records do not reveal parent details.
He was in Belfast 1861 but I am assuming he returned home pre 1870 and was buried Glossop.
I hope I am not causing confusion.

On the Belfast marriage record, does it state who James's Father was?  (That is the Father that you are trying to find, surely?)

When you say that no parents' details are on the military records, do you mean that nowhere is that question asked, or space where it could be recorded is left blank?

The Belfast marriage record indicated he was son of James.
James Wyatt b. abt 1833 England or Wales,m. 9 Apr 1860 to Ellen Ferran in Trinity Church,Belfast,County Antrim,Ireland. Private in Regiment 62nd Foot Depot Wiltshire,service#3980 per marriage record & 1861 military record. He was in Ireland in 1861 per military record & his daughter Hannah's birth in 1861,his daughter Mary Catherine's birth 1863,son Edward James birth in 1864 and back to Glossop somewhere between 1864 & 1868 per daughter Jane Ellen's birth.

There is no mention of his parents on the only military record I can find.

Could this record from Family Search be a contender.
Could his daughter Hannah be named after his mother?

Thank you rolnora.
I think you are spot on. Fits nicely.
I have been trying to prove that it was him who served in Belfast and he married an Irish lass whilst there. He definitely is the most likely candidate.
I can't find anything to confirm that James the soldier was a son of James and Hannah.
I think it quite possible that his first born Hannah was named after his mother.

Thanks

Thanks Trish
I think this helps establish that it was young James who served in Belfast. We know he was definitely there in 1860.
I think his parents went to Wales for a few years after 1851 leaving him and his sister Esther with Hopwood relatives.
