Catharine Corbett - Thurlby????
« on: Wednesday 15 July 15 12:06 BST (UK) »
I am stumped.

My ancestor married Catharine Corbett in 1799 as detailed below:

Marriage to Catharine Corbett (wid.)
1799
20 Nov
Thurlby By Newark, Lincolnshire, England

I visited St Germain's in Thurlby hoping to find some family clues wrt Catharine and found none. No family graves etc.

However if she married my ancestor using her deceased husband's name, then what is her maiden name?

Assumed to be born in either Lincoln or Newark On Trent in 1778, that's all the information I have on her.

Can anyone help solve the mystery surrounding her?

Thanking you in advance,

Chris

The marriage register is here http://www.lincstothepast.com/Records/RecordDisplayTranscript.aspx?oid=525842&iid=216650

Perhaps one or more of the witnesses was a sibling.
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Thank you Geoff-E!

It reads as follows:

James Heppenstall of the parish of Newark Upon Trent + Catharine Corbett widow if the parish of Thurlby was married in this church by Licence this 20th day of November 1799.

by me John Brocklebank off minister

This marriage was solemnized between us (signature of James Heppenstall and the mark of Catharine Corbett

In the presence of

Lidged? Little
John White
Sopia Sleight

I checked for other marriages in the same church and found at this website:

http://www.angelfire.com/ar/arrolfamily/GroomThurlby.html

FISHER, Richard  SLIGHT, Sophia 21 Jul 1801

WHITE, John FISHER, Jane 23 Aug 1790

Is this a rational question:  is Catharine related to the FISHER, WHITE or Slight families?

Can anyone help here?

Lidged? Little

I thought the first witness might be Lidyea/Lydia.

Where did your HEPPENSTALLs have kids?  Have you a place of burial (and age) for Catherine?
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

Geoff-E

answers to your question :)

from Trish1120

"ANN Heppenstall, 13 Feb 1800, St Mary, Newark, Notts to James/Catharine
RICHARD Heppinstal , 19 April 1807, St Mary, Sutton in Ashfield, Notts to James/Catharine
CHARLES Heppenstall, 24 May 1808, Christ Church, Newark, Notts to James/Catherine
CHRISTOPHER, 30 Oct 1810, St Mary, Newark, Notts to James/Catherine
(FreeREG)

A Tree has a FREDERICK 1804"

Trish pointed out that she couldnt have been widowed at 20/21 if we were to go by her year of birth as 1778. She reminded me of something I found elsewhere that suggested she was 30 when she re-married my ancestor. Therefore it should be 1769.

Annie65115 found the following:

"Wonder if this is Catharine's burial

NEWARK St Mary Magdalene:  1832 12 05   Catherine   HEPPENSTALL   age 64   abode Newark

suggests year of birth 1768 so looks likely.

Also, same place
1833 01 18   Ann   HEPPENSTALL   age 33

and in Sutton in Ashfield
1806 04 19   Mary   HEPPINSTAL   (no age given)   dau of James & Catherine   SUTTON IN ASHFIELD St Mary Magdalene"

It's all tying up nicely together :D
