John GULLIFORD of Paulton
« on: Tuesday 21 July 15 10:06 BST (UK) »
Help from census returns it looks like John Gulliford married the widow May Maggs nee Carter, They lived in Paulton. Mary was widowed in 1819 and she is with John Gulliford on the 1841 census so the marriage was between 1819-1841. A tree on Ancestry has the marriage in Bristol in 1830 can anyone confirm this fact I have tried Free Reg and Family Search with out luck

Hope someone here can help Many thanks

Wow many thanks for that but I thought he was Jehu Maggs but it must be them both from Paulton and her a widow. I wonder why she took so long remarrying she was widowed in 1819.But her youngest child was 13 when his father died so there was no immediate need to find a wage earner which was the usual reason for a quick remarriage

Many mathanks both you have been quick to sort this out for me.

Oh dear now is it the same Mary her first marriage was to Jehu and his burial is  Jehu MAGGS in the Paulton register could it be a simple reporters error   you know he scribbled down the information and mis read his noes as Jeffe when it was really Jehu I've tried scribbling ijehu and think that could be what has happened the rest is such a good match.
I recently found a book with my name down as A.M xxxx instead of H.M xxxx so it still happens  ;D

On consideration I think it is right and will take it as such marked with a nite of caution
Many thanks for your help both
