Could someone puzzle out the parents and sponsors names?

Could some kind soul decipher the parents and sponsors names from the Baptism of Rosam (Rose?) Gilligan in Granard, Co. Longford in March 1830. It's the third entry from the bottom of page 93. The names look to have been Latinised.

My best try for the parents is Bernardi and Anne Reilly, or possibly Kelly, and sponsors Terentius (Terence?) Lynch and Maria  ?, and then the place name Granard.

I would agree with Shaun about the names.
I think this is the baptism of a boy [fil] the girls appear to be 'filiam' so I can't say what his name is. It does look like Rosam though.
I have just noticed a Rosam Campbell above this one and that is filiam so very confusing.

Hmm - Rosam doesn't seem to appear on any lists of names in Latin with their English equivalents that I can find.

I just looked at Qualls Concise English Grammar, it uses the word Rosam as an example for something which I don't really understand (missed out on grammar at school!) so not really any the wiser?

Maybe the priest or parish clerk wasn't too sure of himself either ......?

Is not the name ending governed by the case?

I see Catherinam and Brigidam higher up the page.  Considering that, it would be surprising not to be Rosam.

The name would be Rose.

'Fil' is used as an abbreviation both for filium (son is filius) and filiam (daughter is filia).
As Geoff says the ending is governed by the case - accusative ends in 'um/am'  if I recall from long ago!

It's the accusative case. The child's english name would be Rose or Rosa.

My education has been sadly lacking.

My comprehensive school did offer the opportunity to study Latin (and Greek), taught to individuals by the deputy head, but my father refused this for me on the grounds of it being a dead language and of no use. If only....
