What happened to Auguste MARIE?
« on: Friday 24 July 15 15:47 BST (UK) »
Hi
We are researching our Jersey family and more questions are being raised with each discovery. My cousin is in Jersey and she has been searching the Archive but one family member has her stumped. Our great uncle Auguste Marie was born in France in 1876, moved to Jersey in the late 1880s, married one Marie Fosse (m.s. Boishardy) in 1904. She had a son by her first marriage, Celestin (who I think ended up in Plymouth and died there in 1973). Auguste had a son of his own, Auguste Elias Marie, born 5th November 1904. Louise died in 1912 and Auguste snr. died at Bixschoote in 1914. Unfortunately young Auguste then disappears off the radar. We didn't even know about his existence 'til we started researching the family so either he died young (but we can't find any sign of his death in Jersey, or UK generally for that matter) or he went to live with his mother's family, possibly in France - she hailed from Plouec.

We are out of ideas and don't know where to look now.  :-\ Anyone out there care to point us in the right direction??

Thanks.

Louise died in 1912

Do you mean Marie?

If both parents were deceased by 1914, Auguste was only 10yrs old so could he have been taken back to France to live with either parents relatives?

Sorry, yes, I did mean Marie.
By 1914 both of his father's parents had died. He had an uncle and two aunts (one married) living in Jersey but it doesn't look like he went to any of them.
All I know about Marie is that she and her first husband both came from Plouec, France. I've tried to find out more about them but with absolutely no success.

Marie Boishardy was born on October 24th 1872. Her parents were Jean Baptiste Boishardy, a 28 year old Labourer and Catherine Carlo aged 27 and a housewife. From Marie's birth registration it looks as if her grandfathers could have been Jean Baptiste Boishardy, aged 53 and Pierre Carlo aged 56.

Cotes d'Armor records are easy to search, you just need some basic French and a bit of patience. Unfortunately they are not going to answer your original question as they only go up to 1905.

Thanks for this. We don't have these details about Marie, so they are very useful. Thank you :)
