WW1 regiments
« on: Friday 24 July 15 16:44 BST (UK) »
I want to search for my grandfather's war record but need to know what regiment men from Nenagh were enlisted in during WW1.  I presume that as Ireland was part of the UK in 1914 that Irish men were required to join up.  Many thanks

I dont think he would necessarily have joined in Nenagh as there were many places to join all over Ireland.

What was his name and when was he born? His medal records will still survive.

I posted details of my Grandfather on the great War Forum and ended up with a 1910 picture of him.

There was no WWI conscription in Ireland. If you google "ww1 conscription ireland" you'll find lots of information on lots of different sites.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
