Helping Finding Ann Dillon
« on: Saturday 25 July 15 11:14 BST (UK) »
On the 1861 census for the Dillon family I'm researching (RG9/2882 Folio 35 Page 17) there is an Ann Dillon whose relation to the head of the household is left blank. I've not seen her living with my Dillons on any other censuses that I've looked at (1841-1911) and so I assume that she must be the Widow of a Dillon relative that I've not found yet. I've had a look at the censuses to try and find a return for when her Husband was still alive but haven't found anything concrete. The information given about her in 1861 is as follows:

Ann Dillon
Widow
Servant
Born about 1819 in Ireland
9, Humphrey Street, Chorlton on Medlock, Manchester

If any Rootschaters could help me try to find her on a census with her husband (or something that would help me work out who her husband was) I'd be very grateful.

As far as I can see there are 2 who would fit in 1851 - ie born about the right time, from Ireland but in Manchester.

HO107/2230/395/68

Born 1817 A married visitor in the house of Robert and Sarah Dillon. A needlewoman

HO107/2227/987/23

Born 1816 wife of Patrick Dillon, has daughter Mary aged 9

Thanks for finding those two, the Ann I'm after can't be the second one (HO107/2227/987/23) because the Ann Dillon who was married to Patrick in the second one is already on my tree and is definitely different because in 1861 both Ann Dillons appear at the same address.

The first one is definitely a possibility although it is certainly not concrete.

Also, just to complicate matters I just found online that the 1851 census for Manchester was damaged by a flood and although most of the information has been recovered about 39,000 people's information cannot be read. So it's quite possible that Ann's census for 1851 might be one of the illegible ones.
