Thanks for those entries. I think the key lies in his occupation, 'carpenter'. The 1916 entry certainly looks promising.

Yes, I agree with you about any death certificate probably being rather uninformative, but these are the first leads I've had on this man for several years so I'll take what I can get!

The Thomas Murdoch born 1884 served in the NZEF in WWI, never married, and died in New Zealand in 1962.

However, one of his brothers, Robert MURDOCH, born 1882 is also 'missing'. I now wonder if perhaps he left New Zealand with his father. I have no biographical information about him beyond his birth record.

Thank you for that 1922 article. There's no way of proving he's the same man, unfortunately. In any case, Thomas would have been aged 74 in 1922.

I think these three ER entries are 'possibles'.

What is very interesting is that if they do refer to Thomas MURDOCH, he survived long beyond the likely dates of death I deduced from the scant information available. He left his wife Annie with eight children aged between nineteen and six.

I've belatedly realised that the 1922 article you referred to holds a circumstantial reference to our Thomas MURDOCH. The date of the incident, intoxicated man falling over his own feet in Perth's Crown Hotel, occurred on 8 April 1922.

Coincidentally, 8 April was our Thomas MURDOCH's forty-sixth wedding anniversary, and I already knew he liked to drink, so this could well be him!
