Looking for info on Denby/Horsman
« on: Tuesday 28 July 15 12:05 BST (UK) »
Hi
I have John Denby c1800 marries Mary Ann Horsman 27/5/1821 Saint Mary Newington Surrey.
They have a number of children born between 1822-1831 (Clapham). My line is through their daughter Caroline. I would like to try and find Johns dob & death, likewise for his wife Mary Ann. Would also like to find their parents but think this may be a long shot  Any help gratefully received. Karen

Hi
Here's a bit more info on the marriage.
John Denby widower of this parish and Mary Ann Horsman crossed out Osborn 27.5.1821.
wit S Mason and JWW Williams.
John Denby made a cross the others signed.

This might be them 1841 census
Park Road Clapham
John Denby 50 gardener? y
Ann laundress 50 y
John 15 y
Caroline 14 y.

If so it looks as though John is older than born 1800.
There's a death for a John Denby 1.9.1866 age 78 Park Road Clapham and a burial at Norwood cemetery.
Possible for Ann 12.9.1854 age 67 Clapham at Norwood but of course that could be another wife.

1851 Park road
John Denby/Denley 66 gardener Tollett Surrey
Ann 63 Camberwell

Also a John Denby at Clapham 1815 on the Surrey Tax rolls.

Done 1831 -1834 Holy Trinity Clapham burials manually and there's a Benjamin Denby age 4months buried 17.10.1831 from Acre Lane.
Ran out of time to do more .

Think this may be the prior marriage :

John Denby and Isabella Stoneham 24 Sep 1810 St George the Martyr , Southwark; botp , bach & spin.

Their children :

John 24 Oct 1813 Clapham Holy Trinity , John , gardener , and Isabella ( formerly Stoneham )of Polygon Buildings

Anthony 13 Jun 1816 Streatham St Leonard John , labourer , and Isabella ( formerly Stoneham ) of Bromells Road.

There's an Isabella Stoneham born 1788 Bromley, Kent :

and an Isabella Denby born1817 Bromley ,Kent , parents John and Isabella ,

and then two burials , presumably for mother and daughter , both in 1817 :

On the basis of Isabella Stoneham being born in 1788 this might be John Denby :

John 19 Jun 1785 Clerkenwell St James , Edward & Hannah Maria.

Hi
I don't want to tread on any toes but have you noticed a Richard and Anne Denby nee Vickers also a gardener having children baptised at Clapham 1809 onwards.1841 census gives a birth of 1782 for Richard.
They married at Teddington 6/6/1808. both this parish witnesses James Vickery and Sarah Morgan.

Bearing them in mind could this be the family at Chessington and Long Ditton and Tolworth
John Denbigh or Denby 11/2/1787 LD & T s of Richard and Mary
Sussannah Denby 16/9/1781 Chessington
Richard 3/3/1782 Chessington
Thomas Denbigh 16/5/1784 LD & T
Mary 29/3/1789 Denby
Sarah 16/10/1791 Denby
William 27/8/1797 Denbry
Jane 20/6/1800 Denbry

There's a possible marriage to Mary Bradford at Kingston upon Thames 6.11.1780 but they are both widowed wit John Ryley and Hannah Dryman.
A baptism to Richard and Jane Denbry at Long Ditton 26.10.1760

All the best
