Alice Mary McCarthy
« on: Wednesday 29 July 15 00:35 BST (UK) »
My grandmother Alice Mary McCarthy Davis was born in Killorglin, Kerry in about 1876.  She married my grandfather James Davis in 1897 in Dublin.  Her father was John McCarthy, a carpenter.  She died in Hereford, England in 1914.  I have found the record of her marriage at St Thomas, a Church of Ireland in Dublin.  My grandfather was in the British army stationed near Dublin at the time assigned to the 14th Hussars.  I have searched the Kerry parish records and civil records and have been unable to find any information regarding birth or baptism.  I also searched for her in Dublin records because on one document her birthplace is listed as Dublin.  However, I do not believe this is accurate as she did not directly provide this information.  I do not know the name of her mother.  Her first child James Walter Davis was born in Kildare in 1898. My father, George William Davis was born in Worcester in 1899. Does anyone have a suggestion regarding where else I might search.  I have tried everything I could think of on the Ireland geneaology website.

1901 census just for reference:
Living in Worcester
James Davis   28  Worcester  Army Reservist Private 14th Hussars
Alice Davis   25  DUBLIN
Walter Davis   3  Kildare
George Davis   1  Worcester
RG13       Piece  2782      Folio 15     Page 22

Have you tried to find John McCarthy, carpenter, in Killorglin in 1901?

Hi,
Sorry to tell you this but Killorglin, Kerry....there are no birth records anywhere.
they do have Marriage records 1798 to 1911, these are only in the Kildare Street, Dublin at the National Library of Ireland.
I know this as I have searched there many times.

Thank you for letting me know this.  Does that mean that  parish church records were not kept or were lost for the time period that I need?  About 1875-76.

The Priest may have taken the book they were in with him when he moved.
The Kerry link that is above this message, it says it has birth records, but even in the NLI there are only marriage records.
Sorry,
Maggsie
