THE DOG maybe the ships mascot?

Yes there have been seven ships called hms bulldog. Search for them on google

Id go with Royal Marines they look to be RMA (artillery) with the grenade on collar.Guy on right has medal ribbons.Both have a few years service.

Looking closely at the naval hat band being worn by the dog, it looks like HMS Intrepid to me.
