Looking For Uncle Eric Gormley of Belleek, Co. Fermanagh.

Hello

Please could anyone confirm where Eric Gormley went after leaving Belleek?  Think he could have gone to England but not sure.

There were three brothers:- 

Cecil Patrick born 1915 left Belleek in 1936.
Eric was born 1916.
Austin James born 1918 but died in 1922 in a fire involving a Tilly Lamp.  He is buried in Belleek RC Cemetery, Belleek with his father Patrick and mother Alice (Gallagher) Gormley.

Any information however small for Gormley/Gallagher families would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure Eric was born 1916? and did he have a middle name?

There's a birth registration for Eric William Gormley Apr./June 1913 Ballyshannon

Also found a death in England- Eric W. Gormley, age 43, Apr./June 1958 Loughborough dist., England
This matches a probate record for Eric William Gormley died 17 Apr.1958- widow Bridget Gormley

   I can find a marriage of a Patrick Gormley to MARY ANNE Gallagher in Belleek Roman Catholic Church on 7 Sept 1911. Don't know if this is connected.

Thank you both very much for the information.

We always thought that my husband's father Cecil Patrick (Paddy) was the eldest brother, so that is quite a surprise that it was in fact Eric.  We didn't know either that Eric had the middle name of William, so we have learned something else.  It looks as though he married Bridget O'Connor in Macclesfield, Cheshire and then moved to Loughborough, Leicestershire.   

Thank you for the information that Ballyshannon is the Registration District, that will really help.

I will follow up on the marriage between Patrick Gormley and Mary Anne Gallagher in 1911 and see if it fits.

Thank you very much for the website for the Parish Records I will have a look at it.

The Registration District of Ballyshannon is a big help as when searching for births in Belleek I was finding some records and not others and that must be why, so am very grateful for that.

I have been following up on the information which you both very kindly supplied me with.

We are very pleased to finally have been able (with your help) to trace where uncle Eric William Gormley went to when he left Belleek.

Also we are very grateful for the information on the marriage of Patrick Gormley to Mary Anne Gallagher.  We had some information that he married Alice Gallagher and that appears to be incorrect and this information was leading us down the wrong path altogether.

Patrick Gormley and Mary Anne (Gallagher) Gormley were in fact the parents of Eric William, Cecil Patrick and Austin James. 

Any information on their parents Launcelot Gormley and William Gallagher would be very much appreciated.

Try putting the name Launcelot Gormley & place Ireland (any) into www.familysearch.org and there are lots of possible records.

'Lanty Gormley' might be worth searching for as well.
