I have also been looking at the McKinleys, as part of my Fergusons of Limavady research.
Thomas McKinley and Jane Ferguson's daughter Alice McRae McKinley married Robert Edward Alexander (family from Imlick, County Londonderry) on 20 September 1906 at the Presbyterian church in St Johnston. They emigrated to New Zealand in 1909 and her husband was Director of Canterbury Agricultural College from 1909-1936, and Professor when that office was created. In his NZ Who's Who entry, it states that his wife was a daughter of Thomas McKinley of Bulawayo, Rhodesia, so it looks like the parents went to Africa. Unfortunately,I can't find any other evidence to corroborate this.
