Dixon Family - 1891 & 1901 Census Lookups.
« on: Tuesday 11 August 15 23:39 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

Am struggling to piece this part of my family together & require the above census returns please to hopefully piece it together?

My 3x gt aunt Ann Jane Spink (1853-1890) married John Dixon in 1873.

They had 4 children that I know of, but I suspect that they had more but don't know for sure! Those that I do know of are:

Francis (1874-?)
John (1875/76-1897?)
James (1879/80-?)
Jane Ann (1890-1891)

In 1881 they are in South Blyth & Newsham (RG11/5091/59/15) at 21, Station Row. John was born 1851/52 in Netherton, Northumberland & is shown as a coal miner by trade.

In 1891 there is the baptism (on familysearch) of daughter Jane Ann to John & Ann Jane Dixon on 11th Feb 1891 at Earsdon/Blyth. Obviously mother Ann Jane was not present due to her death a few months earlier.

In 1901 on familysearch there is a John B Dixon born 1852 in Netherwitton, Northumberland living in Ashington with a son Francis (Frances on familysearch!) of the correct age but with several more children (four) that I don't know of.

Could sks lookup both the 1891 & 1901 census returns for the family, so that I can see if I am barking up the wrong tree as regards the 1901 & hopefully sort out what children they had with the 1891?

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards

David

There is a marriage in 1898 between John Barron Dixon and Emily Lavery. I wonder if this is your John? It may explain the additional children you found in 1901?

Hi CaroleW & Ruskie,

Many thanks indeed for your replies, very much appreciated.

On marriage record on FreeBMD & 1881 census he is just plain John Dixon. Then by 1891 this Barron middle name appears. The address & occupation in 1891 for John Barron Dixon match that of John Dixon, so they must be one and the same I should think.

The fact that Ann Jane Dixon's (Nee' Spink) death is registered in the following qtr (June qtr 1890) to that of Jane Ann's birth (March qtr 1890) would possibly suggest that her death was as a result of childbirth.

Hmmm, looks very much like that 1901 family in Ashington is them after all. I note that son Robert (born 1884/85) is missing in 1891 but appears in 1901. I wonder where he is in 1891? Ahh, Carole has just answered that for me! Thanks Carole.

Hi Suz, many thanks for that 1881 info re Francis Dixon, much appreciated.

My thanks to you all once again for your help & assistance, it is very much appreciated.

Kind regards

David

Hi,

Have found what appears to be son James Dixon on the 1901 census on familysearch, he is shown as born 1880, Newsham, Northumberland & is residing in Ashington, Northumberland. He is described as son in law. Unfortunately there are rather a large number of possible marriages for James Spink's both in Tynemouth reg district (covers Newsham/Blyth) & Morpeth reg district (covers Ashington).

Could sks look up this one for me & tell me the wife's &/or her family's name(s) so I can hopefully find the right marriage please?

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards

David
