And how long was the sentence? Short terms would often be served locally.

Clerkenwell had it's own prison and the place had some name changes

*Clerkenwell (old) Prison, also known as the *Clerkenwell House of Detention or *Middlesex House of Detention was a prison in Clerkenwell, London. It held prisoners awaiting trial

*Clerkenwell Bridewell for convicted prisoners
*New Prison for those awaiting trial

Wemyss/Crombie/Laing/Blyth (West Wemyss)
Givens/Normand (Dysart)
Clark/Lister (Dysart)
Wilkinson/Simson (Kettle or Kettlehill)

There is a lot of confusion about prisons in Clerkenwell, not helped by Wikipedia.

For a 6-month sentence, he probably served his time locally. If so, in 1864 he could have been in either the 'New' Prison or Coldbath Fields.

In either case he may be in the Calendars of Prisoners for the Middlesex Sessions, held at London Metropolitan Archives (LMA) in series MJ/CP. For 1864 I think you would need to look at the list of Prisoners Tried - MJ/CP/B/011. These records are not online. LMA offers a research service (at some cost).

I'd like to know his address at the time and where he was sent to do his hard labour...
The Calendar should tell you which prison he was sent to, but it's most unlikely to give you the address where he lived. If that's the main piece of information you're after, it's probably not worth the search, sorry.
