Ardamine Parish Records
« on: Saturday 15 August 15 22:12 BST (UK) »
Dear all,

Before I expend a lot of effort to no avail, could I please ask you all a question:

I want to research my Catholic ancestors from Courtown, Middletown and Ardamine on the new records online at the National Library of Ireland.  Looking at their map they have records for Gorey and for Ballygarrett.  Does that mean they don't have record for Ardamine? Or have I got it wrong? Does Ardamine only refer to the Church of Ireland parish?

I don't want to spend days going through the wrong records.

My recent relatives (deaths from the 1940s onwards) are all in the Catholic bit of the graveyard just at the end of Wafer's borough/Kenny's borough next to the Church of Ireland church, which I guess is Middletown. The church everyone went to was Star of the Sea in Riverchapel.  I understand that it was built in the 1880s.  I also understand that the NLI records stop in 1880.

Can anyone set me on the right path? I'd be very grateful.

Best wishes,
Clarrie

Looks like you've got it wrong and are probably thinking of Civil Parish.

Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

On the NLI site at the bottom of the page for each Parish there are links to learn more.
On the Ballygarrett one using the link to the Irish Times Ancestors and than using the Click here for a list of places names etc link you get to this page
http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=rctocivil&churchid=0574&church=Ballygarrett

It would appear Ballygarrett is the RC parish you need for Ardamine but you should check the links on surrounding RC parishes as Civil parishes and RC parishes won't have the same borders.

Click on the word Ardamine to see The townlands in it.
