Looking for a marriage, one and the same person?

I am trying to find a marriage for William Steel, born to William Steel and Bridget Blaylock in 1852, Stapleton, Cumberland.

His siblings were born in Ovingham, Nafferton

Looking at the records, his census entries in 1861 and 1871 gives the birth location of Souport and Kirkandrews upon Esk.

In 1881 census, there is a William Steel with the correct age and location of birth living in Winlaton, Gateshead, Durham, with a wife named Mary Ann and children

Later censuses give his location of birth as Shankhill, Cumberland, which according to a book I have is in Stapleton.

I would appreciate it if someone could help clear up some confusion I have, the ages and location of birth look accurate, however Winlaton and Nafferton are nearly 100 miles apart and some trees online do not give William and Bridget as his parents. Is the William Steel in 1861 and 1871 the one in Winlaton in later censuses?

Hope you don't mind if I correct that. If the Nafferton you refer to is the one in Northumberland (you mention Ovingham Parish) I'd say that Winlaton is about 10 miles away not 100

You are right, it looks like I accidentally put in Nafferton in West Riding of Yorkshire.

According to the 1911 census, they married in 1878, so far I cannot find a marriage record. A name of a father for William would confirm my suspicions

They had their first child William in about 1878 at Denton Burn, Northumberland, meaning it is likely they did not move to Durham County until after the marriage and birth of their second child

Have you discounted (from freeBMD) 2nd q. 1878, Newcastle upon Tyne, William Steel + on the same page Mary Ann Charlton ?

I found that one earlier today, looks to be the only possibility. Most trees online have not put William and Bridget as his parents, despite the fact Shankhill is near Stapleton, Cumberland and looking at the baptisms, there is only one, so hopefully I can rectify it for them

Ancestry has transcription of that marriage on 3 June 1878 at Newcastle on tyne. William Steel and Mary Ann Charlton. His father is William Steel and hers is William Charlton. No image of record unfortunately

He is 24 and she is 21

Their daughter Robina died in 1963 unmarried, William married in 1898 and Robert died in 1912 aged 22, quite young
