Farmer Jackson, Monmouthshire
« on: Monday 17 August 15 19:44 BST (UK) »
;D Hi, can any one help me?   I have the following details but no idea of the location except Monmouthshire.

This gent goes by the unusual name of "Farmer" Jackson, 2 marriages found.

Farmer Jackson and Mary Rogers 18th Oct 1734    Monmouthshire

Farmer Jackson and Margaret Rogers 1st June 1765  Monmouthshire

Would be nice to know the church and location and any other details.

Regards Nigel   ;)

Hi Nigel

Not sure whether you have this but there is a will for a "Farmer Jackson Pant-teg Monmouthshire 1785" on The National Library of Wales site that maybe worth a look …………..

Z, thanks it is the right person and his will free to read online, brilliant  but as you would guess I now have more questions than answers.

The Will for Margaret Jackson gives her maiden name as Jones, not Rogers
Farmers will mentions the Jones of the same parish as is mentioned in Margarets will.

The marriages I have given earlier would appear to be for a different Farmer Jackson, perhaps the Nephew mentioned in the will of Farmer Jackson. This families origins are north Staffordshire and Cheshire.   I need the Panteg PRs..... think this is Paracetamol territory  :o

from the marriage bonds indexed on the NLW site

http://isys.llgc.org.uk/

Farmer Jackson, bachelor, wiremaker, of Pontypool, Mon & Mary Proger, widow, of Panteg 21 Sept 1734 ref B 1/107

Farmar Jackson, widower, tilter, of Panteg & Margaret Rogers, widow, of Panteg, 27 May 1765, marriage at Panteg ref A B 30/128

John Rogers, bachelor, Yeoman, of Panteg & Margarett Jones, spinster of Panteg, Oct 13 1748 marriage at Llanfrechfa or Llanhilleth ref B. 11/188

Dates would be of the licence, not the marriage. Transcription does say tilter, but perhaps it should be tiler?

;D Many thanks for the info. I have not had time to explore the NLW, its new territory for me.

I checked the registers for Panteg on "FreeReg" but they have only transcribed the Baptisms.

Pontypool regs next.

Farmers will mentions annimals an corn on his farm, so this man had a dual occupation Also his executor is his nephew who goes by the same name.

if the Panteg registers haven't been transcribed, you can get a copy of the parish entry from the archives

http://www.gwentarchives.gov.uk/our-services/research-room.aspx

The land came with Margaret Rogers. John Roger's will from 1759 is on the NLW site.
