There is only one report in all the reports I have read that mentions her as 90 years of age and that was in a newspaper in NSW.  The others were word for word identical.   Her daughter may have been the informant on her death certificate.  Surely she would have known her mother's age.  Big difference between 65 years and 90.

Do you know where Ellen, and hopefully Edward, are buried?

Ellen's death record says she was 65. But there are some curious newspaper references suggesting she was about 90. I find it odd that this assertion was repeated several times even in later generations of the family. I can find no marriage record for Ellen or birth for Eva in Australia England of Ireland. John

Have you researched this yourself or had a researcher in Ireland help?

No wonder I missed that :-[...mistranscribed as Helen....and the grave has been re-used.  No Edward HYDE either.  ACA will amend their database if you notify them via the website.

The date of deaths on the database are frequently the dates of burial.  Send ACA the death registration and newspaper items.  In this case the date 27 May 1917 was a Sunday and that matches the funeral notice which was published on Monday 28 May 1917 mentioning funeral on Sunday.

A possibility if born c1852

LALOR Ellen
Baptism 30 Mar 1851
Baptism  Mountrath, Laois, Ireland
Father Patt  Mother Sally PHELEN

I suggest you try and access the registers at West Terrace including the burial orders etc. to attempt to find Ellen's correct age at death.  Wonder if a priest officiated at her burial?  Thinking of the possibility of a parish record.

Each of the many news items are worded identically.

http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article5590174
The Advertiser 29 May 1917
Mrs. Ellen Hyde, an old colonist died on May 26 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. F. Pritchard. Fairford street, Unley. Mrs. Hyde was born at Termikell, Queen's County, Ireland, and came to Australia about 40 years ago. She was a sister of Peter Lalor, who led the miners in the insurrection at the Eureka Stockade on December 4, 1854. He was elected to the Victorian Parliament two years later, and subsequently became a Minister of the Crown, and in 1880 Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.

Cando, that should be 46 years ago.  If Eva was the source of the information then it appears that her estimation is based on her own year of birth.

Another different age here, impossible to work out the first number but the second is a '6'.

If Edward HYDE actually existed then he kept a low profile.  8)

http://www.ballaratgenealogy.org.au/ballarat-history/eureka/item/341-genealogy-of-the-lalor-family  perhaps our OP may consider emailing some of the people who have contributed to the info on that link.

I did not see any mention of any Ellen as a sibling for Peter Lalor born 1827, the youngest child.

Cheers,  JM
