I'm pleased to let you know that our wonderful volunteer has now indexed Hamilton Sheriff Court paternity cases from 1845 and 1915!

The online index gives name and designation of both the pursuer and defender and this index is completely free to access.

These are cases where the mother of an illegitimate child takes the father to court to force him to pay towards the upkeep of the child. Before 1855 it is often the only record of who the father was in these cases.
