Having checked the OFHS's Oxfordshire Marriage Index (1538-1837) for F(F)AWDR(E)Y, I'm afraid there are no entries for William+Elizabeth prior to 1699, or James+Mary prior to 1750.  (Interestingly, though, I did spot a few entries for various FAWDR(E)Ys in Salford in the 18th century.)

Then thought I would check a few more "obscure" spellings of the surname and came up with the following:

01 MAY 1685 - William FAUDERY to Elizabeth COULBORN at Chipping Norton

but this may be too late!

that could possibly be the William and Elizabeth, although he would have died 14 years later, and they did have 4 children together and he possibly had two from another marriage or someone else prior to Elizabeth.  His will lists his children as james, Elizabeth, sara, hana, mary rapheal , William and Cornelius.  I believe William and rapheal were before the others.  I know for certain my ancestor up to a james fawdrey who married a jane wilkins , may 25th 1771  in witney, oxon,uk.  This james would be my 5th great grandfather.  If you  find anything else that might fit, please let me know, and thank you for trying to help me, it is greatly appreciated

Hi
You may already have this info but within the PR's for St Marys Church, Witney is the marriage you refer to on 25 May 1771.

In case you do not know the entry states James was Farmer, the marriage was after Banns and the wits were: John SMITH & William FRENCH. He signed and Jane entered a X

Hope this helps I shall have a a look around and see if I can find anymore info.

Hi again

Now this is a massive long shot and may be better just parked in your files for further evaluation but in the baptisms for St Marys Witney there is a William FAWDRY baptised on 6 Jan 1638 s o Edward - this may be your William who you refer to you????? But it is probably a bit early, still as I say its a small piece of a puzzle perhaps?

Nice find Hanes Teulu - very nice.

Goblin
Just to help your search in the Salford PR's there are the following FAWDRY/FAWDERY entries:
68 Baptisms - 1st in 1723 last in 1955
27 Marriages - 1st in 1720 last in 1970
58 Burials - 1st in 1719 last in 1946

Let me know if you want a look up of any of the above. It may do you well to purchase the CD from Oxfordshire Family History Society, if you do it is CD OXF-CN01 and they can be found at: http://www.ofhs.org.uk

Off to look in Chipping Norton PR's for you next

I have checked/searched "Fawdrey" under "Keywords"- but not alternative spellings.

Goblin

There is so much info in the Chipping Norton PR's for your family and by coincidence it is all on the same disc that I referred to before so I think you would do well to purchase that so that then you can slow time piece together your family.

The last name is also entered as FADRI in 1638 - think about literacy as it was then not was we understand and expect it today!!

So to offer any more info to you now, may well be miss leading, unless it is a specific request on an individual/s

What do you think?
