Henry Lewis
« on: Sunday 30 August 15 11:24 BST (UK) »
Hi; Can someone please do a look-up on the 1871 census for Henry Lewis.  Details known: On Sept 22nd, 1866 the Will of Richard Lewis late farmer of Brithdir farm in the Parish of Gellygaer was proved at Llandaff by the oath of Henry Lewis of Rhymney Iron Works 'rail straightener' one of the executors.
The only clue is the Rhymney Iron Works, I have no idea where he resided.
Regards, Roy

Hi Cardiff
Rhymney is at the top of the Rhymney Valley in Bedwellty Parish, Monmouthshire.  The connection with Rhymney Ironworks is that he worked there but not necessarily have lived in Rhymney.  I have since learnt Henry Lewis was residing in Gelligaer parish in 1851

Just beat me to it!

Caroline died 16 June 1872 - a chapel notice in the paper describes her as wife of Henry Lewis, Pontlottyn . She was baptised in Soar, Rhymney in 1841, buried in Pontaberbargoed cemetery. She was the daughter of Owen Gethin, Werngynlais near Ystradgynlais

Samuel appears to be living in High St, Brithdir in 1871 - a grocer's clerk residing with the owners. Think this is him in 1881 - the middle name fits his mother's maiden name!

25 Merchant st, Brithdir

John Llewellyn    60 - retired farmer
Saml. Gething Lewis    27 - son in law b Pontlottyn. Cashier & Book Keeper At Eng Wks (Clerk)
Jane Lewis           22 - daughter
Eliza Lewis    9 months - grand daughter
Annie Jenkins    19 - servant
Mary C. Roberts    12 - nurse

RG11, 5307, 44, 2

By 1901 he's an iron and steel merchant living in Cathedral road, Cardiff
