Hi. All I am trying to trace a side branch in my tree .in looking for Any relatives on my maternal grandmother's family. Annie Miller. Nee  Donohue. I found her mother was Elizabeth Allan. B.07.05.1871. Penrith Cumberland. Her father was John Allan. Mother Ann. I believe. She had a brother. John. Baptized. 14.may.1861. St Andrews Penrith. I Think John Allan their father. Was born.1834. Brampton and Baptized 29.06.1834 in Brampton. And that his parents were.  Joseph Allan. B. 1810. And Sarah Allan. Nee clark. Wed Brampton. 30.11.1833. I have John. B. 1834. In 1861.census. In Penrith. 1891 Appleby. As a Tinsmith. 1901. Scotland rd.  Penrith. And finally 1911. Penrith. Record type institution?  Work house.? Sorry to be so long. But trying to give best information. I have. What I am looking for is anything on Joseph Allan. And any Brampton connection. I have allways had fantastic help on this site. So hopefully something may turn up.. Hi Sorry for the late reply I have been unwell. Yes that's my family. I have not got johns marriage to Ann. But believe his father was Joseph Allan Mother Sarah Clark. Wed brampton 30 Nov 1833. Think Joseph Allen was born. 1810. Son. John Allan baptism 29 June 1834. Brampton. Was Tinsmith. Olso brazier. Most of my family are travelling folks. So sometimes children are with other groups. John. Allans daughter Elizabeth. Born Penrith. Circa 1873. Was my great grandmother. I do apologize for spelling errors. I am using a smart phone. And am disabled. Hi again Rob, I think the family possibly also used the surname spelling as Allen going on this baptism ( or just transcription)

Where William is in 1861 still wondering, also family in 1881 see in 1891 they had an Ellen b c 1876 and Martha b c 1878 Penrith

Anything that sounds like Allan could be the family. If they were illiterate (as was more than half the population at the time of his birth) then the spelling would be entirely down to the vicar or enumerator. Just up the road from Brampton, in Stapleton parish, there is one family whose name changed from Foster to Forster and then Forrester/Forester each time a new curate was appointed
