Mitchell family of Lacock

Hi Folks,

I am attempting to unravel a mystery regarding a Thomas and Elizabeth Mitchell.  This couple appear on the 1851 census in Finsbury, Islington (8 Rhodes Cottages) along with 4 of their children, Mary Ann, 9, Martha Ann, 7, John, 5, and William, 1.  Thomas, 37, is from Lacock, Wilts, Elizabeth (Eliza), 30, is from Stroud, Gloucs. Mary, Martha and John were all born in Wilts, Will was born in Limehouse, Middlesex.  Now while I am fairly certain that this is my family (William is my 2nd great grandaddy), I am having difficulty locating any info on Thomas and Elizabeth. 

I have a marriage record which might be them BUT it is from 1852 - Thomas Mitchell and Elizabeth Clift nee Tipper/Pipper (Elizabeth was a widow according to the marriage record), April 18th 1852, Parish Church, Bethnal Green.

I don't think I can really help with your request.
However, there is an On-Line-Parish Clerk site for Wilts at this address which may be of some use.

Unfortunately, they don't have a clerk for Lacock but they have a 1861 census transcript which lists
a Mitchell family consisting of;
William, head, m, 47 born  Melksham
Ann       wife,  m, 47    "    Lacock
+ 3 sons

 Also there is this entry;

Netherent Hill;
Lydia Mitchell, head, wid, age 70, Needle Woman born Lacock

This last entry could a mother to William above & your Thomas.

On Anc....y there is a National probate Calender of Wills which lists Lydia as late of Lacock died 18-8-1874 with Admins granted to William Mitchell of Canon Street East, in Middx - Fireman, the s/o  and one of the Next of Kin.

If this the right family, the 1841 census is showing a Thomas Mitchell aged 14 with parents of David & Lydia both aged 50 in Lacock.
