Castle Ward registration district
« on: Wednesday 09 September 15 22:14 BST (UK) »
Hi all
Quick question if I may: Would the Castle Ward registration district of Northumberland have included or been part of Berwick upon Tweed around 1912 please?
General:
Scotland - Henderson, Rutherford, Tofts, Green, Philp/Philip, Cook
England/Wales - Helps, Jones, Wright, Petheram (Axbridge and surrounding areas, Somerset)
Canada: Rutherford, Green
New Zealand: Rutherford

Castle Ward RD was based around Gosforth, Newburn, Ponteland and Stamfordham.

It did contain the parish of Berwick Hill, but NOT Berwick-Upon-Tweed!

Berwick Hill is a village in Northumberland, in England. It is situated to the north of Newcastle upon Tyne, near Ponteland.

To see the location of Castle Ward go to http://maps.familysearch.org/ and put Castle Ward in the search box, then click on Castle Ward in "Civil Registration District"

Great, thanks both for your help. That closes that possible line of enquiry then.
Back to the drawing board...

If you tell us what/who you are looking for maybe we can help.  In the meantime this is a useful page relating to registration districts in Northumberland

Apologies for the lack of reply, not been on here in a couple of days.
I was just revisiting the possibility of any children that may have been born to George Ballantyne and Christina Hogg Brown, who were living in Berwick on Tweed in 1911. There were 3 children listed to a Ballantyne/Brown combination shown in that registration district after 1911, but it looks like they aren't from these two given what you say.

If the registrations were after the census then it is possible that they relocated.  Ballantyne is not a common name up here (though Brown is  ;D ) so it would be worth investigating further.

What occupation did George have on the census?

He was a teacher of music, and she had no occupation listed.

A music teacher should be a good one to search for.  Try looking at trade directories - see if he's advertising in the environs of Newcastle post 1911.

This website is a good start
