Houghtons of Sawbridgworth
« on: Saturday 12 September 15 18:36 BST (UK) »
We have been trying to locate Houghtons in Essex. Recently we visited Little/Great Hallingbury churchyards. In Little Hallingbury we found Houghtons born in Sawbridgeworth buried there. We have contacted Sawbridgeworth Library who tell us the records are held in Hertford, which is quite a distance and also as I work we can only visit on Saturdays. I was wondering if there is anyone else connected to the Houghtons of Sawbridgeworth x

Maybe if you posted some names and dates and what you are seeking we could be of more assistance

There are several Houghtons b Sawbridgworth who moved to Essex

Thomas Houghton b Sawbridgworth married Edith Gertrude (b Wandsworth) -they kept the Railway Hotel in Saffron Walden

George Robert Houghton married Harriet was a farmer in Steeple Bumpstead  as was James Houghton -both b Sawbridgworth

Thank you. We are hoping there is a connection.

We have a Thomas Houghton who lived in Little Hallingbury and he was a Maltster, Hopseller etc he was born c 1720 and we have exhausted all of the Essex Parishes in the area.

Also Henry Houghton b c 1768.

In the churchyard we found William Martin Houghton b c 1795.

Any info would be greatly appreciated we plan to try to get to Hertford in late October x

Yes I think that is them but we haven't worked out who the others are yet. I have the details upstairs and will take a look I think we found the burials. We are going to look at Slated House as we think some of the Little Hallingbury lot connected to Thomas the Maltster also li
ved there. Thank you again for this information x
