Welcome to RootsChat, Joy.

When you say "trace her" do you mean after 1851, or before?

Only James McNicholl households in Co Derry in the 1831 census were:

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1831/Londonderry/Coleraine/Errigal/Coolcoscreaghan/26/

Both are in the RC parish of Errigal. Unfortunately they have no baptism records before 1846, so may be tricky, if that’s where the family originated.

McNicholl is a really common surname here.

Is Mary in 1911 English census? we aren't allowed to do lookups for it but entries are apt to give a more exact place of birth than 'Ireland' or the name of the county.

Click on 'report to moderator' and ask for this topic to be moved to Derry/Londonderry board where it belongs. There are a few others who read the posts there and know more of the Glenullin connections further back than I would.

Hi, I looked at the parish registers and could not locate a birth for Mary McNichol with parents James & Elizabeth. The only birth for Edward I could find was in county Down in 1846- parents were Methodist. Found one marriage in 1831 for a James McNichols & Eliza Scott in Belfast, co Antrim. The only births in the timeframe I could locate for McNichol in county Derry are Ann in 1843, Rose in 1844 and Isabella born 1845. All three girls born in Maghera parish, county Derry to James McNickle & Eliza Kearney. I could not find a record of the parents' marriage. Hope something helps, Kim

Thank you for looking those up for me but none seem to match I do appreciate the time and help though. It seems this side of my family are proving hard to track down.
Thanks again everyone!
I will keep trying!
