The Google News Archive online has the Montreal Gazette (and some other Montreal papers).  2005 isn't available, but there are lots of issues from earlier decades.  You can't search by name, but you can look through the papers by date.

This must be Leslie M's obit from the Montreal Gazette.  It is identical to the one in the Toronto Star.
