Death of George Hamley
« on: Monday 21 September 15 16:58 BST (UK) »
Hi. I am searching for the death of George Hamley. He was married to Anne Rendle (Rundall/Rundell) in 1784 in Tavistock. Their 4 children were all baptised at the Abbey Presbyterian Chapel  in Tavistock, Devon and Jane at Brook Street, Independent Chapel, Tavistock, Devon. At some stage the family moved to Bristol and Anne died 4th Feb 1847 'widow of George Hamley, Accountant in Clifton in the city and county of Bristol'. I have so far failed to find either his baptism about 1756 + or - 20 years or his death 1820-1846.
I would be extremely thankful for any help or guidance to solve problem.

Hi,
Source: Bristol & Avon Family History Society
I can confirm that there is NO record of a death for George HAMLEY, 1820-1832. I guess it must be post-1837. Try FreeBMD.

Thank you Victor.
BMD have 2 in Tavistock but not the correct ones (I've paid for both). I suppose date could be 1800-1820. I'll keep looking in Devon & Somerset.

Hi Veronica,
I've checked the 1754-1813 burials and there is NO sign of George HAMLEY.

Hi

There is a possible sighting of him in 1830 Bristol, from Pigots Directory

GEORGE HAMLEY a port gaugers of customs ( a gauger being a collector of alcohol taxes) listed at the Customs House, Queen Square.

Other Hamleys listed were

Ann HAMLEY ~ Straw Hat Maker   of 8 Bridge Street, Bristol.
William  "      ~ Stone & Marble Mason of Commercial Road, Bristol.

Thank you so much for taking the time to check. So it looks like I can give up on Bristol.

Thanks Claire. That George is his son, born 1785 in Tavistock. I don't know who the other Hamleys are as I'm not into One Name studies (yet!)

I am still searching for the death of George Hamley snr. I have tried Devon, Somerset & Gloucestershire. Any suggestions as to where else I can search? He must have died somewhere; maybe a parish that's not yet online?
Thank you for reading this again
