Peter Finnegan
« on: Saturday 26 September 15 10:41 BST (UK) »
One would have thought that Peter Finnegan was a pretty unique name.He is given as the father of a Jane Finnegan who married an Isaac Newton at Liverpool(Our Lady) in 1846.I am trying to search for him in the 1841 Census. This Jane is given in later Census entries as being born in Neston Cheshire.Whilst I am looking for this Peter and Jane in 1841 they are in fact not the primary object of my search.

I do believe that Peter also had a daughter Rosanna. This Rosanna is shown in the 1851 Census and later as the wife of a John Griffith(s) with a son Thomas aged 7 months in Birkenhead Cheshire.I do believe that this John Griffiths is a relative of mine.He is showing in Birkenhead as a Tailor. This John is given as born in Overton Flintshire. There is a John Griffiths given in the 1841 Flintshire Census as aged c 21 years and given as a Tailor. The primary object of my search is to find the marriage of John to Rosanna.

Regards
William Russell Jones.

I have now found the marriage of John and Rosanna. It took place at Liverpool St Peter on the 31st of December 1848.Family Search does indeed give her father as Peter!Of interest to me though it gives John's father as a William Griffiths.Whilst the William is not of particular interest to me at this stage,it does rule out the John Griffiths given as Baptised in Overton in 1820 and as the son of William and Sarah Griffiths as being a candidate  for the John Griffiths who was to marry a Sarah Butler at Ruabon St Mary's Denbighshire in 1846.

Now even though the John who married Sarah's father is given as a Richard Griffiths as per Marriage Certificate,we all know that stranger things happen! It is the John Griffiths who married Sarah Butler who is the elusive character really.
