Next of Kin for Record Request query
« on: Wednesday 23 September 15 15:48 BST (UK) »
Hello, these sites keep saying next of kin.  What happens if the person died in 1943 and has no surviving wife or children?
Williams, Owens, Pritchard, Povall, Banks, Brown.

Not exactly sure what you are asking but for someone who died as long ago as 1943 you should not have any difficulty applying for records. I have certainly done so when not having any family connection.

If you are not next of kin you wont get the full records but you will get a transcription.

This new question has been split from an RAF topic and renamed.

According to the link below it appears you don't need to be next of kin if the person died more than 25 years ago.

Whem I applied for my dad's (who died in 1970) WW2 RAF service record I would have had to pay £30,as I was not his next of kin whilst serving.

In the end we applied in my mum's name (frail, but still alive at the time) and they did it for free.

Mind you it took months to come through though!
