.could someone confirm this on findmypast thankyou

We are not allowed to do look-ups from named sites.

However, you can easily confirm the name by using a free index search on Durham Records Online http://www.durhamrecordsonline.com/NewSearch.php

Enter the Christian name Ann in the search box.
Record type - select Marriages.
Event year 1827
District: select Gateshead (Heworth was in Gateshead district)
Spouses name enter George Brown.

The result of this search will give you Ann's surname  :)

You could also find the full record by looking at this Bishops Transcripts for Heworth http://www.rootschat.com/links/01g8u/

You will need to trawl through page by page. The record is definitely there, but I'll leave you the fun of finding it for yourself  ;D

Not Jen, but I think she'd agree that a good clue is that if you look at the record, neither the bride nor the groom could write their name in the register but 'made their mark'

Given that, a more pertinent question would be 'How did Ann pronounce her name?'
The person who wrote in the register couldn't ask her how to spell it (no point if she couldn't read/write) so they would have made their best shot at it, depending on what they heard when she gave her surname.

If it were me, I'd be reasonably happy  (I am rarely 100% sure about anything much in family history) about the Boomer/Bulmer variation even if the pronunciation is currently different to 'Boomer', that was then, this is now.

I have a few people way back in time in the North East whose surname was BURN, on a good few records its down as 'BOURNE'. If you say BURN out loud in the local accent, BOURNE is a reasonable shot at it :-)

Boo

Boomer does exist in County Durham but is not all that common. About 35 of them Born, Married, Died on Free BMD. 1842-1975
